.: my pet projects :.

I've been doing these basically the past four months, developing concepts, slept at 7am everyday, never ending printing, taking pictures (by my own and from flickr...), many, many trips to Kelly Paper (where, incidentally, I tripped and fell over and made a huge fool of myself...LOL) until the people who works there know me just by hearing my voice... and these are the results:

This is a magazine based on the word 'paramour' or illicit love affair. My concept is mixing craft with a bit of a flair (like Sublime Stitching mixed with Ready-made, in a way...) Since the first issue is about love, the content is more like Ready Made mixed with Playboy .... :p

I wish I took pictures of the content, but the book was still very fragile when I shot this and I didn't want to risk it falling apart before I got to class. I bind it myself, therefore it's a little crooked :p I love the faux-leather paper I use to cover the inside, and the blue leather matches the blue on the cover outside. The pages are french-fold, printed on a yummy, creamy & smooth Mohawk paper that I absolutely love. Now my professors got a hold of both projects, so I cannot show you more.
This book is the result from all the interviews I've been conducting these past four months (and I used some of your photos without asking, of course) If I didn't get a good grade out of it, I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out.

Comments, anyone?

.: the return of the scrapper :.

I miss scrapbooking (digitally) a lot. Haven't done it in a very long time, and I got so many beautiful kits I want to use. I probably got 30gb of files of scrapbook kits and another 2gb of pictures I want to scrap. Now that I got some time off, I return to scrapbook. I made the paper and the jelly snowflake that you can't barely see... :)

.: anthro goodies :.

LOVE ANTHROPOLOGIE! Especially the one on top left, but it's not on sale yet. The one on bottom left is on sale but they no longer have my size. I keep my fingers crossed though....

.: while flick-ing :.

I found these hilarious pictures while browsing Flickr, shamelessly stealing images from highly talented photographers for my book :p Maybe I should chill with a good bottle of Johns Daphne, eh?

.: Love Us! :.

my new design hero: Marian Bantjes

I understand how challenging it is to love designers: they're a bunch of wackos who got excited over book covers, non-nonsensical jumbled alphabets, and went wild in a paper store. We sleep 4 hours a day (if we're lucky), drink coffee like water, and live among paper swatches and weird trinkets. But love us, please... we strive to create a better world for all of you ... at least visually :p

.: random random random :.

Whenever final projects are closing on me, I got panic. When I got panic, I usually got easily distracted and browse around instead of doing stuff. I know it's a terrible habit but I just need to do something to ease the nervousness. So here are the results of my panic-attack-browsings: t-shirts from Crafster store. Aren't these adorable?

.: cute outerwears :.

Although my closet is extremely overloaded I still cannot resist to add more stuff :p I have 5 black jackets/coats but whenever I see something cute in black I still want to take it home! Living in SanFran, outerwear is very important because basically for 9 months out of 12, you need them. (excuses....) Winter this year comes a bit late but I already plan for another outerwear-window shopping, and this military jacket from AE is soooo cute! OK, on to another browsing moment...

.: almost christmas :.

I made a mistake last week: I walked into Target's Christmas section. I basically grabbed everything they have on shelves with cute deers and full-bellied snowman illustrations. It was a good thing I got an epiphany before I went to the cashier and put a big percentage of items back on their respective shelves and just got out of the store with two items. However I cannot get the stuff out of my mind! They have a fondue kit, sugar cookie mix inside a giant corduroy sock, syrup set, margarita mix, hot cocoa in adorable cans... Aargh!!!! Note to anyone who is planning to get me something for Christmas: shop at Target. Except for someone : shop at Tiffany's ... I mean it! *LOL* Obviously it's holiday season at Starbucks too ... so my favorite drink is back! And they mix it correctly instead of just drip some minty syrup onto my regular latte... Now I'm a member of Starbucks gold, I got 10% off! Yay!

.: rainy season? :.

No more rainy days for at least a week ... Which is good and bad. Good because I hate going to school in the rain, carrying my paper-based project(s) that I need to protect with several layers of plastic bags... I hate having to go out at all because rainy days are meant to be spent underneath my comfy comforter with my plushy pillows. Bad because I actually love rainy days *passive-aggressive indeed!* I think I've posted sometimes last year about how I love watching each droplet hitting my window and the fresh smell of earth afterward. And now I love it even more if I can get my hands on these rainy-days shtuff!! The umbrellas are super, super cute!! (not to mention impossibly expensive...)

.: my best friend's wedding :.

It's so surreal to be back in SanFran again fussing over homework while two days ago I'm still eating Sundanese food without worries. So hard to go back doing homework, I was constantly distracted! Speaking of the wedding: it was one of the best one I've ever been to because every single element in the wedding worked : wacky bride & groom, beautiful dresses; simple, elegant decorations; fun guests; good food and good weather. I've never met a crazier bride than my best friend T. I didn't really feel tired that day because we had good laughs. I just realized how sore my feet were the day after the event and take advantage of being in Indo : get myself a $5 massage *grin grin* Here are some snappies of the wedding (I don't post pictures of the bride & groom coz I don't think she'll allow me to blog them, but they're in my facebook album)

.: sundanese please? :.

pencok leuncanasi tutug oncom
the works: rice, grilled chicken, tofu,
tempe, petai, salted fish and sambal terasi

All my friends know by now how I despised regular Chinese food (aside from dim sum), it is on the very bottom of my list if there's nothing else to eat. By regular I mean those places you can find in Chinatown, China and Hong Kong. I absolutely hates how noisy and dirty the places are and how greasy the dishes are. There are only a few places that I tolerate and they serve Taiwanese food instead of Chinese. My Chinese food menu never vary : Mabo Tofu, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Deep Fried Squid and Spicy Salt, Green Beans, repeat. Interestingly enough, I tolerate Sundanese restaurants... no matter how noisy and dirty the places are! :p They are smelly with 'terasi' and 'salted fish', super noisy (because hello, sundanese are super talkative & high pitched!) and dirty with cats and rats running around freely. Odd, eh?

.: mosquito party! :.

Chester with his way-too-small army uniform

Hong Kong airport at 7AM

Glad it's going to be a one week trip because :
1. My next door neighbor is renovating and the construction workers are super noisy. Not to mention the dust!

2. It's rainy season in here so it's super humid. Your skin is sticky (+ dusty from no.1) I wash my face every several hours because I just cannot stand how sticky & oily it is. And the mosquitoes are insane!!! I got bit six times in one hour, and most of the bites are on the most unusual places like on the top of your finger and on your knuckles.

3. I eat a lot & my friends already horrified with my body. I can eat 1 lemper, 1 kue sus & 2 tahu goreng in 1 hour. I load myself with sugar from frestea & buavita!!

4. My parents are also renovating therefore they moved most of my stuff (including my sweet flat screen 15" TV) to the rented house. Sad... I was planning to catch up on some movies while I'm here.

.: random :.

I've been posting random stuff lately huh ... :) I think no one reads my blog anymore coz nobody comments on anything lately. I know most of you are busy just like me ... but if someone's reading this, gimme a shoutout!

I finally got my Obama buttons from project8 today! Yay! I saw my friends wore the buttons to class so I asked them about it. Turned out that the button was designed by a friend of my friend, one talented Hikaru Furuhashi and they donate the profit for Obama General Election Campaign. I immediately put an order for the buttons. The middle one is reserved for a Mr S (claim it or I'll sell it!!!LOL), but I'll be willing to share one extra smiley button with someone who actually read this post & leave a comment. :)

I was distracted in class by this giant ball of used masking tape. I saw an empty gum wrapper in a shocking pink color so I made this. Dunno what to make of it but I see it as a pink bow on a white head....... :p

.: spacing out :.

I've decided to have fun playing dress up everyday to alleviate my stressed out mind. Comments, please? :p

.: yessss!!!!! :.

Election 2008, originally uploaded by jasonpermenter.

Finally, new US President!!!! Relieved but anxious what's going to happen here in the US (sorry but I do not care of what's going on in my own country... it's a circus back there) I really really hope this time it'll be better. So glad to be a witness of a major historical event here and strongly hope the war will end soon... *fingers crossed*

Unfortunately, by this time tomorrow I think prop 8 will be passed. Personally I think a marriage is between two persons who are in love, woman and man, man and man, woman and woman... Naive maybe, but that's just how I feel. (do I smell thesis here?? :p )

Hooray for Obama-Biden! Good luck!

.: drenched :.

Rain makes me feel melancholic (worse than usual). All I want to do is roll around my bed under my blankets and drink a ginormous cup of coffee. Instead I have to run errands, buy stuff to take home and for my friday projects. Found out I got bad grades (C = lack of effort in AAU and barely passing). I think I'm burned out :(

it's raining like crazy here!

good thing I have my rain boots

So I won't have to sacrifice my new caramel-colored boots

.: bespoke :.

I love that word. Sounds so luxurious and old world-ish. And everything bespoke usually comes with a hefty price tag... but you'll be the only one wearing it...

.: dressing up :.

:: my hair is just ridiculous::

I loooove Yulanda's blog that showcased her daily outfit. I wish I can go back to my old weight so I can wear some old clothes that I loved because I have so many pretty dresses that don't fit me right now. Two days ago was the first rainy day in SanFran and I pulled my warm boots out of the dusty shoe rack again. Inspired by Yulanda, I mixed up an old dress with my very useful cardigan. I like the combination and I like my outfit better than whatever I found at H&M that day. Maybe I should dress up more! (and brush my lioness hair...)

.: a little cover up :.

I am a bit careless when it comes to taking care of my stuff. My books are dogeared, my white t-shirts are spotty, and sadly my MacPro is starting to show his age. It is full of dents and scratches now, the keyboards start to look smooth and shiny instead of texture-y, and the touch pad has traces of my fingers. My iPod is in a worse condition due to the residue from the silicon skin. I am sooooo tempted to cover them with the skins from my favorite artists but I'm worried if in the end I have to remove them, will my gadgets look worse?

.: shoe fetish :.

I'm having problems with shoes all the time. I am short and puffy (I despised the word obese) with exceptionally small feet (size 5) If I wear flat I look so awkwardly off balanced and my legs look ginormous. If I wear high heels I got tired easily because of my weight. So far my solutions have been wedgies but they don't always match your outfit. Recently I found a company called Sofft that produces very comfy shoes but they don't have a lot of style that I like. I love Crocs' sandals but they're too juvie sometimes and they don't come in my size. Now they come up with this collection called You, it's like a combination between Crocs' comfy cushion with style! So cute! However stylish high-tech does not come cheap ... this cutie cost $140 ....... good thing they don't come in my size (again...) So for consolation I bought this cute maryjane 'stripper shoes'... :p

.: all dressed up :.

One of the things I love about San Francisco is how people walk everywhere and take public transportation (although I have a love/hate relationship with SF Muni) I got the chance to see varieties for cold-weather outfits here, from the nastiest oversize sweaters matched with cropped pants and booties (arrgh) to sleek and chic colorful coats. I think my obsession with clothing is actually getting worse here! So many well-dressed girls and girly men (I saw a very well dressed man wearing a black patent-leather stilettos to school one day) I also adore little details, good color combination and retro-ish style. I love how these girls dress and I wish I can start to have more adventures with my bulging wardrobe just like they do.
1. Yulanda
2. Emily Martin -> the artist behind my print collection
3. Piksi
4. Elin

A friend noted that the reason I look so 'Asian' instead of 'American' is because I don't dress like most Americans do (is that even a problem? I don't get it) Granted that certain styles don't really fit a 145lbs- 5' 0.6"(that point six counts, right?!!) but I don't think it has anything to do with race. Just have fun, don't be hatin! :p

Lately I've been a sucker for handmade look on everything I have, trying to find that special details. I think this top is super lovely and it is handmade... and it has that 60s, mod-ish feel to it! I've been begging my mom not to throw away her 60s dresses but I don't think she will agree ... :p

.: happy happy! :.

I got positive feedback from people who downloaded my scrapbook stuff... :) *such a sucker for praises* Now I wish I have more time to create stuff! I'm also very delighted that two of my good friends moved to SanFran!!! *HUGS* Now I have more friends I can talk to & shop with! We went to the Green Apple Bookstore today and I found something precious (although nothing beats that Marvel Comics Superheroes Fitness Guide of yours, Pen!) It's a 1957 illustrated Winnie the Pooh book. Almost every page have black & white illustrations and several color plates by E.H Shepards. It is in mint condition and does not smell like it has been sitting in someone's garage for 51 years.

This week I also got my Black Apple's print, so now I have a set of three! So exciting! Now I need to find frames that will fit my Anne-Julie's prints in order to have a mini-gallery in my room.

On top of that, I finished a scarf and needle holder too! I guess I was truly busy huh?

.: my mini scrapbook blog :.

I love doing digital scrapbooking. I think I mentioned it sooo many times before :) Now I'm learning to do my very own kit and I have a blog for it: mixmatchscrap.blogspot.com. There's a yellow button thingy on the very end of the bar on the right, just in case you want to see what I give away. And here's the page I created from my own kit... (the flower's not mine tho, got it from the unbelievably talented nancy kubo) I wish I can do better so maybe one day this can be useful to generate money for my Anthropologie obsessions...

.: shop for a cause :.

I love Sujean Rim's watercolor illustrations, and now she collaborate with Jones New York for their campaign 'Support America's Teachers'.

Four dollars will be donated to the National Teen Dating Abuse hotline if you buy this necklace. I think it's really cute!
